Who We Are
The Human and Environmental Development Organization (HEDO) is a non-profit company committed to fostering social and environmental harmony in Sri Lanka. Born out of the 1992 poverty eradication initiatives with World Bank support, HEDO has worked since 1995 to empower rural communities through projects in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and forest conservation. Our mission is to drive sustainable development by sharing knowledge, promoting biodiversity, and creating opportunities for marginalized populations. Our vision is a peaceful and prosperous society where people live in balance with the environment. HEDO also addresses modern challenges such as climate change, youth unemployment, and rural women's economic security.

Renewable Energy Access:
Implementing micro-hydro, pico-hydro, and biogas projects to reduce rural dependency on non-renewable fuels.
Forest & Biodiversity Conservation:
Conserving critical forest areas and educating communities about environmental stewardship.
Sustainable Agriculture & Land Use:
Promoting vermicomposting, organic farming, and sustainable land management
Supporting community-managed water projects for reliable, sustainable access.
Training rural youth and women for alternative livelihoods, leadership development, and rights awareness.
